Bourke is a town of 3,000 people and has a district population of around an extra 1,000. Bourke shire covers 4.3 million hectares. Situated at the head of the Darling River, and at the center of the Kidman Highway, Kamilaroy Highway and the Mitchell Highway, Bourke is known for its Multi Million dollar wool industry. Cotton has now become a very hi-tech industry in the area with 2 cotton gins now in production, along with computerised watering systems in one of the biggest fruit growing areas in NSW.
